We enter barefoot, almost naked
Into a strange element
With our feet we step through
The threshhold between sky and sea
Life unlike our own is revealed
By the sun's rays that split
Through the water like a brilliant fog
That hides then reveals
Treasures little and big
The colours of gems
We take a deep breath
And dive through silk
Through thick air, through
The element which makes us fly
Our flippers as wings and our arms
Gliding elegantly through
We swim like Butterfly and Angelfish
With our minds eye we become small
And make our way through little nooks
Between corals the colour of sunshine and fire
Between corals that move, not by water, but by life
We feel it move and
Though it has no heartbeat we can fell its pulse
Its life source surrounds us
If the ocean could sing
We'd hear a deep echo of a place
As vast as a universe, but teeming with life
Above us we see a brilliant blue sheet that moves like liquid life
Below we see a vast dark blue space
Deep to depts unimaginable
Hiding life that sometimes emerges from the deep hue
To look at you with equal awe
Before descending again into
The murky clouds that
Thicken into mystery far below
